About the event
In this immersive Kungfu tea experience, you will be guided by Sophia Yang, a skilled tea artist hailing from the tea-rich region of Huangshan, Anhui, China. With deep family roots in tea cultivation, Sophia’s ancestors have been growing tea for generations. She brings not only her expertise in the art of brewing but also a profound connection to the history and culture behind every leaf. As your tutor, Sophia will teach you the traditional techniques of Kungfu tea, using a Gaiwan, tea scoops, and precise methods to brew the perfect cup. This isn’t just a tea lesson—it’s a calming, meditative journey into the heart of Chinese tea culture.
Kungfu tea, known for its precision and artistry, is a traditional Chinese tea brewing method that emphasizes the balance between time, temperature, and technique. Using a Gaiwan, a lidded bowl, the tea master carefully selects high-quality loose tea leaves, often oolong or pu-erh, and brews them in multiple short infusions.
Each step is deliberate—warming the teaware, rinsing the leaves, and pouring the tea gracefully to extract the best flavors. The process involves pouring hot water over the tea in controlled, quick motions to reveal layers of aroma and taste. It’s a ritual that invites patience, mindfulness, and respect for the tea’s rich history. Every cup brewed in Kungfu tea style is an immersive experience, bringing out the complexity of the tea and creating a connection between the person brewing and those enjoying it.
This technique not only enhances the flavor but also brings harmony, as it’s an invitation to slow down, reflect, and enjoy the present moment.
